Things to do

Places of historical interest in Arbroath are the Abbey; built in 1212, the Arbroath library which has archives, material and the Signal Tower museum. Arbroath is within easy reach of many historic buildings such as, Glamis Castle, childhood home of the Queen Mother, and the House of Dun and Fasque, which is still used as a family home.

The Signal Tower close to Arbroath harbour now houses Arbroath Museum. It functioned as the shore station for the Bell Rock Lighthouse, built in 1811 by Robert Stevenson, grandson of the famous author Robert Louis Stevenson.

The moveable copper ball at the top of the tower signalled to the Lighthouse, eleven miles offshore. The keepers' families lived in signal tower until 1955. The award-winning museum is full of life-like models telling the tale of Arbroath and its people, including the story of the Abbey and the design and building of the Bellrock lighthouse
