Whitby...
Often referred to as the gem of the Yorkshire Coast, Whitby offers the visitor history, charm and beauty. Its narrow, cobbled streets contain a wealth of fascinating shops where you will find all kinds of craftwork, local Victorian photographs by Frank Meadow Sutcliffe and jewellery made from famous Whitby jet. There are numerous old inns and coffee shops, and plenty of opportunities to sample freshly caught seafood.
The colourful harbour dominates the town with the ancient Abbey ruins looking down in it from the skyline. See Whitby transformed by the eerie sea mist and you will understand how it inspired Bram Stoker to write his stories of Count Dracula. This is also Captain Cook country: he lived in Grape Lane and spent many years sailing colliers from Whitby harbour.
If you are seeking an active holiday there are many sporting activities available including golf, fishing, horse riding and sailing.
