Jean and Brian Ruffhead run a family Bed & Breakfast establishment in a very comfortable country bungalow situated in the fertile valley of Strathmore. To one side there are the rolling Sidlaw Hills and to the other side are the very impressive Grampian Mountains. This gives the region an enormous variety of scenery - from soft, green farmland and wooded hills to rugged mountain scenery with lochs and misty tops.

This area is renowned historically for its Pictish stones and GLAMIS CASTLE, childhood home of the Queen Mother.You will find us between the A94 and the A926, 2 miles outside Glamis.

· GLAMIS CASTLE Visit the Queen Mother's childhood home; the birthplace of Princess Margaret and the legendary setting of Shakespeare's Macbeth.
· ANGUS FOLK MUSEUM (National Trust) at Glamis. A picturesque row of 17th century cottages which houses one of the finest folk collections in the country and you can also wander round the historic village of Glamis.
· MEIGLE MUSEUM OF PICTISH STONES A remarkable collection of 25 sculptured monuments of the Celtic Christian period - one of the finest Dark Age sculpture collections in western Europe. To find out more about the Picts, visit Pictavia at Brechin Castle Garden Centre. In the churchyard at Meigle are the graves of Queen Guinevere and Sir Henry Campbell-Bannerman (Prime Minister 1905-1908).
· DUNDEE Follow in Captain Scott's footsteps at DISCOVERY POINT where there are inter-active exhibits, spectacular film shows and climb aboard Scott's ship RRS Discovery. Also visit the VERDANT WORKS - an old jute mill restored to show what life was really like in those industrial days 100 years ago. See the new TAY ROAD & RAILWAY BRIDGES next to the remains of the original railway bridge lost in a storm in 1879 soon after it was built.
· KIRRIEMUIR Visit the birthplace of J M Barrie, the creator of PETER PAN, which is in the hands of the National Trust for Scotland.One of Kirriemuir's unusual attractions is the RAF Museum and it also boasts a Camera Obscura.
· DUNKELD Here is the mostly ruined and very romantic Gothic Cathedral which rises from shady lawns beside the River Tay. Dunkeld also boasts a graceful bridge built in 1809 by Thomas Telford. Nearby is an outdoor exhibition about Beatrix Potter as she visited the area many times in her childhood and based some of her characters on local people. |

There are a whole host of things to do for the fit and the not-so-fit:-
· WALKING There is a range of countryside; rivers, forestry, lochs, the gentle Sidlaw Hills or the more mountainous area of the Grampians and Angus Glens with a chance to "bag" Munros.We hold a collection of local ordnance survey maps and can advise you on suitable walking routes or act as guides for you.Transport can also be arranged to and from the walking area.A coast-to-coast walking route across Scotland passes by the bottom of the Sidlaw HillsA new long distance pathway is noe open called the Cateran Trail for which we can arrange transport for any guests staying at Arndean.Tailor-made holidays can be arranged for you to suit the level of walking required - please enquire for more details.
· CYCLING There are many tracks ideal for mountain bikes and the quiet country roads are ideal for touring around.Maps can be provided and routes advised.
· SKI-ING Glenshee, one of Scotland's main ski resorts lies within 80 minutes drive to the north
· GOLF A wide selection of golf courses in the immediate area and even Carnoustie and St. Andrews are within a 40 - 50 minute drive.Special tickets enabling a different course to be played every day are available at reduced prices.
· FISHING Perthshire's rivers are rightly famed for the quality of fishing.
· CURLING During the winter months curling is available locally in Forfar and also in a selection of other places.
· SHOPPING First class shopping in the cities of Edinburgh, Glasgow and Aberdeen - travel by train or car. Plenty of souvenir shops locally at Glamis, Forfar and Blairgowrie. |

· GLAMIS CASTLE TRANSPORT EXTRAVAGANZA In July, classic vehicles from all over the U.K. come together in the grounds of the Castle along with other displays and entertainment.
· FORFAR HIGHLAND GAMES · Sunday early June to be held at Glamis Castle
· GLAMIS CASTLE PROM Now a grand annual tradition in August at Glamis Castle when the National Symphony Orchestra of Scotland give an open air concert on the lawns. Hundreds of people enjoy a picnic before listening to some wonderful music and ending with some rousing Scottish singing and fantastic fireworks.
· BRAEMAR HIGHLAND GATHERING Held on the first Saturday in September followed by entertainment in Blairgowrie that evening and Blairgowrie Highland Games the day after.Braemar is a beautiful drive from here through either Glen Shee or Glen Isla. |

DIRECTIONS: Take the A928 from Glamis in the Kirriemuir direction for 1 mile and turn left at Linross sign. Follow this round the bends for just over a mile and Arndean is to the left of the white Linross Farmhouse.
